The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) took place in Las Vegas last week, giving us all the chance to see which direction commercial technology is likely to head over the next 12 months. The size of companies and quality of products exhibited varies greatly at CES, but there are always pleasant surprises and technologies to get excited about. This year, it was one of the largest, most prominent tech companies which provided the talking points in our office.
Some are calling it “The end of an era”, as the once prominent mobile phone manufacturer Nokia will cease to produce any more handsets. Fans of the Finnish mobile manufacturer have been mourning the loss, and coming to terms with the fact that there will no longer be another phone carrying the Nokia brand.
Last week we touched on the recent rise of Samsung as leading smartphone manufacturer, as sales of Apple’s iPhone were surpassed over the last year. However, Apple may yet have a trick up their sleeve as images are surfacing of the iPhone 5C. A new study also found that over 30% of Apple buyers’ previous phones were Samsung, while only 11% of Samsung customers’ previous models were Apple.
Just as Apple’s crown was snatched from them as world leader in smartphone sales, it appears they may have gone some way to stifling Samsung’s progress in the market.
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) marks the beginning of the new tech year. Gathering together the world’s leading innovators, the show is a dazzling array of product announcements and brand conferences.
